Brazilian women’s volleyball team 2016
Hello there and welcome to our Todo Mundo Pod (in Portuguese) in which we are going to speak about Brazilian women’s volleyball team 2016
On today’s podcast we are going to speak about Brazilian women’s volleyball team. The Brazilian team won the last two editions of the Olympics: Beijing (2008) and London (2012) – both against United States of America. This year, in Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Brazil is also one of the favorites to win the title in this sport.
The Brazilian team was only officially formed in 1951. Back then, the team won the South American championship, but in general it was not considered a very competitive group.
Until the 90s, the best placement of Brazil in the Olympics was a sixth place in Seoul (1986).
Precisely in 1994, the coach Bernardinho Rezende took control of the women’s selection and the results began to improve: the team won the silver medal in the World’s championship held in Brazil and gold in the Grand Prix in 1995. Then, it was generated a great rivalry with Cuban women’s volleyball team, the best of the decade.
In 2003 coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes took over the Brazilian team and among the titles that made history with him are the two gold medals in previous Olympics.
In the championship which will be held in this country, the team may have some embezzlements, but is still one of the favorites for the title.
We will talk about these issues in this podcast and I also put many terms related to them in this episode’s transcript
