Unlocking the differences between por and para in Portuguese

Hi and welcome to this week’s Todo Mundo Pod in which we are going to speak about the differences between por and para in Portuguese.

I know it can be tough trying to understand the differences between por and para in Portuguese. Even for us, who are Brazilians, it is a hard subject or at least it is hard to explain that to a foreigner. We just know it. It seems to be something that we learn because we use both para and por often in spoken and in written language.

Even so, I did a research in order to find a way to explain that to you. This time I prepared an episode like Portuguese Basic Tips. I mean, I won’t tell you a history about a President or about Brazilian desserts, caipirinha or something like that you already used to.  I’ll just pick up some phrases to use as an example and at the end of it you’ll have at least a clue on how to use the two words.

As time goes by, even when we study a language very much, it is common that we have difficulties in one or another subject. To know how to use por and how to use para is one of the most frequently asked questions I encounter between foreigners.  I hope this podcast will solve this issue for you!

One more thing: it is important that you remember that all sentences of this podcast were made based on Brazilian Portuguese. In European Portuguese, the sentences can be different.

That’s it for today!
