Differences between Portuguese and Spanish
Hi there! Welcome to the 14th episode of Todo Mundo Pod in which we are going to cover a few differences between Portuguese and Spanish.
Is Portuguese like Spanish? Do people speak Spanish in Brazil? If I learn to speak Spanish people in Brazil will understand me?
If you follow this podcast for a while, those questions may seem a bit obvious to be answered, but those are frequently asked questions for people who don’t speak Portuguese.
Because of that, I’ve made this episode covering a few aspects in each language in order to try to solve this issue, or at least I ‘ll try to explain some differences between both of them.
It is true that the two languages have Latin origins and lots of things in Portuguese and Spanish appear to be related, and precisely because of that, there are many expressions that can make people get confused. In other words, there are terms that can be written in the same way and even pronounced similarly but they have completely different meanings in Hispanic language and in Portuguese language.
In any spoken language, our tendency is to join words with each other when we talk fast, These joints are repeated until they become ” officially accepted ” by grammar books. Here in Brazil we call them contractions. I’ll also speak about the main Portuguese contractions in this podcast.
As promised in the episode, here is the link (only in Portuguese) for the contractions of Portuguese Language.
