Pronouncing Brazilian Portuguese correctly – Portuguese tongue twisters 2
On today’s podcast, we are going to keep exercising your tongue. Exactly: we’ll “unroll” it, so you’ll see that pronouncing Brazilian Portuguese correctly is easy! We are going to use some Portuguese tongue twisters to do it.
C’mon, follow me.

A vaca malhada foi molhada por outra vaca molhada e malhada.
This means something as the spotted cow was wet by another wet and spotted cow.
This sentence we’ll be good for us, because we got what in Portuguese we call “dígrafo”. Dígrafo is a group of two letters representing just one phoneme, one sound. In Portuguese we got double “r” (rr), double “s”, but in this case we are going to practice the “lh” phoneme. So repeat it with me:
– A vaca malhada foi molhada por outra vaca molhada e malhada.
Luiza lustrava o lustre listrado; o lustre lustrado luzia.
Luiza polished the striped chandelier; the polished chandelier shone.
This one will be difficult even to me! Let’s unroll our tongues together!
Repeat with me:
Luiza lustrava o lustre listrado; o lustre lustrado luzia.
In daily conversations we generally use the verb “brilhar”, instead of using “luzir”, but both are correct. And both mean “to shine”.
A babá boba bebeu o leite do bebê
The silly nanny drank the baby’s milk. Don’t get me wrong here. This is just a kind of joke with the words. That’s why we are exercising so far. So don’t think about the meaning of the sentence. They’re silly too. You won’t use them in a real conversation. However, you’ll probably use all Portuguese phonemes we’ve learned up to here.
So repeat with me:
– A babá boba bebeu o leite do bebê
